1960: Making of the President

Type: Area control/card driven
Number of players: 2
Age of players: 12+
Length: 90 minutes

Additional DescriptionMore Details

All elections are turning points, but the presidential election of 1960 holds a special place in American history. The 1950s had been a period of unparalleled economic growth and US global power. Richard Nixon served as President Eisenhower's Vice President through most of the period. Nixon's humble origins gave him a common touch that appealed to the small town, idyllic America encompassed by the spirit of the 1950s. John F. Kennedy, was Nixon's mirror image: charming, Harvard educated and the scion of an American political dynasty. Kennedy challenged Americans to confront the uncertainties and tumult that were already emerging in 1960. He set his vision not in the past, but on new frontiers.
In 1960: The Making of the President, you take on the role of one of these great protagonists vying to lead America through an era of turbulent change. The candidates must contend with all the great issues of the day, from the Cold War to civil rights to voters' pocket books. This is an election that will turn on positioning and momentum. The contest is fought on an electoral map of the United States as it stood in 1960. Using a card-driven game system, all the major events which shaped the campaign are represented: Nixon's lazy shave, President Eisenhower's late endorsement, and the 'Catholic question' are all specific event cards. The famous televised debates are also an important component of gameplay.
As with a real election campaign, the challenge is to adapt your game plan as the ground shifts out from under you. There are never enough resources or time to do everything, but you need to make the tough calls to propel yourself into the White House. This fast-playing strategy game for two players challenges you to relive the most significant political contest of the Twentieth Century. Will you recreate history, or rewrite it? 1960: The Making of the President provides you the opportunity to do both.

A Few Acres of Snow

Type: Card/War Game
Ages: 12 and up
Number of Players: 2
Playing Time: 60 minutes

There is an open copy of this game available for play at Board Game Warriors.

Additional DescriptionMore Details

A Few Acres of Snow covers the long struggle between Britain and France for control of what eventually became Canada. The version on offer is the standard edition, the limited edition is now unavailable.

The game involves a deck-building mechanism which may be familiar to those people who have played another certain award winning card game. Each player starts with a small set of cards. Cards come in two general types, location cards and empire cards. You can add an empire card to your discard pile simply by taking one as an action. Adding a location card is a little more involved. Each location card has a list of locations that it connects to and the transport type required to move to each of those locations. To take control of a neutral location you would have to play a location card with that neutral location on it, then a card that has the correct transport symbol, and then possibly a card with a settler symbol on it if required. You then place a cube in the location and add the location card to your discard pile.

Players take it in turns to perform two actions. There are a range of actions available, such as settling new locations, besieging locations, trading fur, launching Indian raids, and building fortifications. There are also cards that allow you to perform actions to manage your deck, such as getting rid of useless cards and drawing additional cards from your pile. You can also place cards in reserve so that you can use them at a later point in time.

The game ends if a player manages to capture his opponent’s capital city or he has managed to place all of his village or town pieces on the board. In the latter case points are calculated to see who wins.

A Game of Thrones Board Game

Type: War/Negotiation Game
Ages: 14 and up
Number of Players: 3 – 6
Playing Time: 180 minutes

Additional DescriptionMore Details

King Robert Baratheon is dead, and the lands of Westeros brace for battle.

In the second edition of A Game of Thrones: The Board Game, three to six players take on the roles of the great Houses of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, as they vie for control of the Iron Throne through the use of diplomacy and warfare. Based on the best-selling A Song of Ice and Fire series of fantasy novels by George R.R. Martin, A Game of Thrones is an epic board game in which it will take more than military might to win. Will you take power through force, use honeyed words to coerce your way onto the throne, or rally the townsfolk to your side? Through strategic planning, masterful diplomacy, and clever card play, spread your influence over Westeros!

To begin the game, each player receives an army of Footman, Knight, Siege Engine, and Ship units, as well as a set of Order tokens and other necessary components. Each player also receives a deck of unique House Cards, which are used as leaders in battles against rival Houses.

Each round in the game is made up of three phases: the Westeros Phase, the Planning Phase, and the Action Phase. The Westeros Phase represents special events and day-to-day activities in Westeros. There are three different Westeros Decks, and each denotes a different global action, potentially affecting all players.

The Planning Phase is perhaps the most important. Here you secretly assign orders to all of your units by placing one order token face down on each area you control that contains at least one unit (Knight, Footman, Ship, or Siege Engine). This portion of the game emphasizes diplomacy and deduction. Can you trust the alliance that you made? Will you betray your ally and march upon him? Players may make promises to each other (for aid or peace, for example), but these promises are never binding. The result is tense and compelling negotiations, often ending in backstabbing worthy of Westeros!

During the Action Phase, the orders are resolved and battle is entered! When armies meet in combat, they secretly choose one of their House cards to add strength to the battle. Finally, the Houses can consolidate their power in the areas they control and use that power in future turns to influence the the their position in the court of the Iron Throne and to stand against the wildling Hordes.

In addition to featuring updated graphics and a clarified ruleset, this second edition of A Game of Thrones includes elements from the A Clash of Kings and A Storm of Swords expansions, including ports, garrisons, Wildling cards, and Siege engines, while introducing welcome new innovations like player screens and Tides of Battle cards.

Tides of Battle cards are an optional mechanism that brings an element of unpredictability to combat, representing erratic shifts in the momentum of war due to factors such as weather, morale, and tactical opportunity. During each combat, both players draw one Tides of Battle card from a communal deck, and its value modifies the strength of his chosen House card. What's more, such a card may also contain icons that can affect the outcome of the battle...all of which delivers a new level of intensity to your military engagements.

A Game of Thrones LCG: Kings of the Sea (revised)

This is an expansion for A Game Of Thrones Living Card Game and requires the base set to play.

Additional DescriptionMore Details

From Fantasy Flight Games:
We have developed an expansion to the AGoT LCG Core Set, and we’re calling it the: Kings of the Sea. Kings of the Sea was developed with three major goals in mind:

The first of these goals was to bring House Greyjoy back into the LCG environment. From this perspective, the expansion consists of a Greyjoy deck that is similar to the out-of-the-box decks that you’ll find in the AGoT Core set. With a mixture of both new cards and old school Greyjoy reprints (some modified and updated for the LCG environment), House Greyjoy can once again stand proudly alongside (or, if you prefer, against) Houses Stark, Lannister, Baratheon, and Targaryen in the LCG environment.

Secondly, I insisted on using the design of the Kings of the Sea expansion as an opportunity to address some of the context and synergy concerns noted earlier. In this product, you’ll find numerous King and Queen characters, some new Kingdom locations, and a spattering of Military Battle, Intrigue Gambit, and Power Struggle plot cards. Additional use for crested characters is also prevalent (particularly Holy and War), and a major black hole in the AGoT LCG metagame, a realistic check on powerful locations, has been confronted.

Third (and not unrelated to the context and synergy discussion), we wanted this expansion to have something for everyone, even if they’re not at all interested in House Greyjoy. Thus, each House gets at least 1 King or Queen, and the plot deck (with the exception of an important House Greyjoy only plot reprint) along with many of the neutral cards were selected as cards that could potentially be useful building blocks in the widest possible array of decks. So even a die-hard Lannister player (there aren’t really any of those out there, are there?) should be able to find something of use in this set.

A Game of Thrones LCG: Kings of the Storm

This is an expansion for A Game Of Thrones Living Card Game and requires the base set to play.

Additional DescriptionMore Details

A storm is coming, raging under the banner of House Baratheon. From the Iron Throne at King's Landing to their ancestral home of Storm's End, the lords of House Baratheon bring power awesome enough to rein in the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros under one rule, but as civil war threatens to tear the land apart, even brothers bound by blood will be drawn against each other into the conflict...

Kings of the Storm is the fourth large expansion for A Game of Thrones: The Card Game, featuring 165 cards new to the LCG card pool - three copies each of 55 unique cards - that add new deckbuilding opportunities and strategic depth to your game.

The cards included in Kings of the Storm deepen the existing strengths of House Baratheon, as well as adding some new tricks to the House of the stag. At the core of Kings of the Storm are the lord brothers of House Baratheon: Robert, Stannis, and Renly. Each brother claims the Iron Throne for himself and their abilities based on being the only king in play represent in game terms their strained relationships with each other. Any one of the brothers can form the hard core at the center of a strong deck through exemplifying one of the strengths native to House Baratheon.

A Game of Thrones LCG: Lions of the Rock

This is an expansion for A Game of Thrones the Living Card Game and requires the base game to play.

Additional DescriptionMore Details

From their seat of power at Casterly Rock, a seat nearly as powerful as the Iron Throne itself in wealth and influence, the rich and powerful lords of House Lannister are raising the banners of war. Beneath the golden lion on a crimson field as red as spilt blood ruthless lords, devious ladies, cunning knights, and vast armies are forming to proclaim to Westeros the words of House Lannister: "Hear Me Roar!"

Lions of the Rock is the sixth Deluxe Expansion for A Game of Thrones: The Card Game, featuring 165 cards new to the LCG card pool – three copies each of 55 unique cards – that add deck-building opportunities and strategic depth to your game.

The cards included in Lions of the Rock deepen the existing strengths of House Lannister, as well as adding some new avenues of strategy to explore. Forming the core of Lions of the Rock are the formidable members of the Lannister family: the ruthless patriarch Tywin, the treacherous queen Cersei, the Kingslayer Jaime, and the beguiling Tyrion. Each wields power as naturally as dragons breathe fire, backed by the limitless wealth of Casterly Rock and the unbreakable will of House Lannister's honor and willingness to repay any debt in blood. As anyone in Westeros will tell you – a Lannister always pays his debts...

In-game, each Lannister represents a different approach to victory, around which entire decks could be built, from Tyrion's synergy with the Clansman trait, to Tywin's breathtaking seizure of power based on having lots of gold in play during Dominance, to Cersei's ability to claim power whenever you win intrigue challenges (playing very well into the new The Power Behind the Throne agenda). Working separately, the Lannisters are merely powerful. Working together, the might of the Lannisters can become unstoppable.

A La Carte

Type: Dexterity/Family Game
Ages: 8 and up
Number of Players: 2 – 4
Playing Time: 30 minutes

Additional DescriptionMore Details

In one of his sillier games, Karl-Heinz Schmiel casts the players as semi-psychotic cooks attempting to hone their culinary skills. Each player receives a miniature pan and a hotplate. Then each turn you can either attempt to turn up the heat, season your dish, or attempt to steal another cook's recipe in the making. Heating your hotplate is a random affair with a die, and could raise the heat on everyone's plate. Spicing the dish is heart of the game and done by up-ending small bottles filled with little colored wood pellets. When the pellets tumble out of the bottle (sometimes, if they do), the number of pellets can't exceed two, because over-spicing the dish ruins it and you have to throw it in the trash!

There are 5 different salt dishes. The salt dishes are placed along the other dishes. The dishes are cooked as normal, only salt is needed.

Age of Industry

Type: Economic
Number of players: 2-5
Ages: 13+
Length: 120 minutes

Martin Wallace’s streamlined redesign of Brass.

Players are tycoons in the early days of the Industrial Revolution, a time when traditional craftsman were rapidly replaced with steam-powered machines. Players invest in the production of raw materials, the manufacturing of goods, and the transportation networks needed to connect them.

Additional DescriptionMore Details

Like Brass, the strategic space is vast and player decisions are limited by cards. In Age of Industry, however, cards are color-coded to regions rather than specific cities, allowing the players to be more flexible with their plans, while at the same time, continuing to limit the decisions available. The color-coded region cards will also support expansion maps.

In addition, the original Brass rules were simplified by eliminating the canal period; there is only one period, the railway era. There is also a new, non-specific industry, which will change with each map.

According to Wallace, "You can now play something with the depth of Brass but in half the time. The game will have a double-sided map, with Germany on one side and southern New England on the other."

Age of Steam: Box Edition - Moon & Berlin Wall

This is an expansion for Age of Steam and requires the base game to play. It comes with a box for containing Age of Steam expansion maps.

Additional DescriptionMore Details

Age of Steam: Moon and Berlin Wall Maps are exciting new expansions for the popular Age of Steam board game series.

The Moon Map is viewed as “spherical” so track can be built off the edges and connect on the opposite side of the board… play is also affected by the Night & Day phases of the moon. Players must build from the central hex (which counts as a city but has no color or goods) or cities linked to it. The Engineer action now enables players to build 3 pieces of track. Another new action, Low Gravitation, allows the use of 1 link belonging to another player during goods and movement phases.

The Berlin Wall Map features a new Engineer action allowing the building of 3 pieces of track or removing one red track marker from the board. Goods may only be delivered from east to west (or vise versa) through holes in the wall by removing the red track markers. Red cubes represent the Soviet Army and Blue cubes the American, British and French forces and movement of these cubes is restricted until the round marker reaches the red player marker that was placed at the start of the game….at this point all restrictions are removed!

Age of Steam: Vermont & New Hampshire

This is and expansion map for the game Age of Steam, and requires the base game in order to play.

Additional DescriptionMore Details

This full color, mounted-on-gameboard Age of Steam expansion contains two maps with three different expansions containing unique twists on Age of Steam, including a double-map expansion with comprehensive modifications and the ability to play up to 8 players in a single game. The maps are compatible with both Age of Steam and Steam.

Vermont
Takes place in the rural forests of Vermont, where the rugged terrain and drastic seasonal changes make railroad building very expensive...but also very lucrative. This map features Seasonal Changes: Every other turn (Winter), track is more expensive. On those turns, however, you'll get a bonus income for each delivery you make. It also feature Unused Action Bonus: Any unused actions receive money, which keeps piling up until someone uses that action.

New Hampshire
Right next door to Vermont, this side of the expansion features strict anti-competitive measures that ensure there's no collusion amongst players. This map features Unique Track Builds: Track builds can not be duplicated; once a player has built a section of track between two locations, no one else can build that same connection. It also features No Track Sharing: Players must deliver goods across their own track only.

Central New England
The biggest expansion ever created for Age of Steam, allowing up to eight players simultaneously and using all the rules from Vermont and New Hampshire in addition to a few new rules specifically for this combination map, including Crossing State Lines: where goods must be delivered across state lines and Smuggle: an action which allows players to secretly deliver within the same state.

Since the expansion is a single double-sided board, two copies are needed to play Central New England.

Agricola

Type: Worker Placement
Number of players: 1-5
Age of players: 12+
Length: 60-120 minutes

An open copy of this game is available for demonstration.

Additional DescriptionMore Details

In Agricola (Latin for "farmer"), you're a farmer in a wooden shack with your spouse and little else. On a turn, you get to take only two actions, one for you and one for the spouse, from all the possibilities you'll find on a farm: collecting clay, wood or stone; building fences; and so on. You might think about having kids in order to get more work accomplished, but first you need to expand your house. And what are you going to feed all the little rugrats?

Agricola is a turn-based game. There are 14 game turns plus 6 harvest phases (after turn 4, 7, 9, 11, 13, and 14). Each player starts with two playing tokens (farmer and wife) and thus can take two actions per turn. There are multiple options, and while the game progresses, you'll have more and more: first thing in a turn, a new action card is flipped over.
Problem: Each action can be taken just once per turn, so it's important to do some things with high preference. Each player also starts with a hand of 7 Occupation cards (of more than 160 total) and 7 Minor Improvement cards (of more than 140 total) that he may use during the game if they fit in his/her strategy. This amounts to countless strategies, some depending on your card hand. Sometimes it's a good choice to stay on course, sometimes you better react on what your opponents do.
Agricola can also be played without cards (family game) and can even be played solo.

3. 15 light white counters. These generic white food or cat-tail markers will be great for general token replacement. They will be fatter on the bottom and skinnier on the top than the grain tokens but of a similiar look.

4. 20 grey stone counters. They will have a granite/ dark gray color to them.

5. 27 yellow wheat counters. These will be yellow like bundles and stand up by themselves.

6. 18 orange carrots or food counters. These will look like carrots, orange and just carrot shaped.

8. 20 Gold markers. These trapazoid shaped gold markers are great for all those euro games that require gold of any sort. These will look like a real gold brick in terms of shape and not a lame yellow cube like most games have in them.

The total number of pieces then is 33 wood, 27 bricks, 15 white tokens, 20 stone, 27 wheat, 12 gold, 18 carrots and 36 additional food (12 each of bread, fish and drum-sticks/chicken leg). Total of 196 pieces all together.

You will also need to show diplomacy in the senate and maybe visit the temple for some luck from Fortuna to win.
Although dice-rolling is luck-based, the options offered here go well beyond luck. You cannot control (well, sometimes you can, actually) the dice you get, but clever allocation of “bad” dice rolls can yield good results. Four wealthy families – the cloth merchants, the spice merchants, the carpenters and the silversmiths – want to enhance prestige and augment their influence. For this reason, they compete for the major contribution to the castle’s construction. Players act as architects. The four families commission them to plan and realise the build-up of the town and the castle.

Arkham Horror: Lurker at the Threshold

This is an expansion for the game Arkham Horror and requires the base game to play.

An open copy of this game is available for demonstration.

Additional DescriptionMore Details

Through the murky streets of Arkham, unnatural gates are opening to connect our world with strange other dimensions. Out of the depths of these eldritch pathways have begun to crawl profane creatures that even now haunt the innocent, dragging away the unwary and causing havoc on silent midnight streets. At the epicenter of this living nightmare roil whispers of arcane magic cults, ancient family secrets, and a truth too terrible to behold. Join as one of a team of intrepid investigators committed to rooting out these otherworldly portals before an ancient evil reawakens, bringing its ancient horror back to destroy the world as we know it. Welcome to the horror of 1920's Arkham, Massachusetts!

This expansion brings new levels of dread to your table top, with the addition of a brand new Herald Sheet for "The Lurker at the Threshold" – a powerful and malevolent being that has appeared to prepare the way for the Ancient One, plus more than 200 components and some extraordinary new game mechanics to boot.

One of the highlights is the full set of 18 Gate markers that are designed to replace those from the Arkham Horror core set, as well as those from The Dunwich Horror and The Kingsport Horror. They are treated exactly the same as the previous Gate markers, except that each Gate now has an additional characteristic. For example, the "Gate of Madness" will cause an investigator to lose one Sanity when they fail to close the Gate, and a "Moving Gate" that can move along with monsters during the Mythos phase.

Brand new to The Lurker at the Threshold are Relationship Cards for use in games with two or more players. Each player draws one Relationship Card at the start of the game, which describes some advantage gained due to how the investigator to your left is related to you. Perhaps you are business associates and mutually reap the benefits of income, or both are Students of the Arcane and gain more frequent access to the Spell deck. No matter how you're related, these will bring a more interesting back-story to your game, involving your characters in more interesting ways than ever before.

Finally, The Lurker at the Threshold introduces the Dark Pact deck which will tempt foolish investigators to enter into a terrible arrangement with the Lurker itself. Although these Dark Pacts may grant your investigator enhanced abilities, there is sure to be a cost. What happens when the price too high?

Of course with over 100 new Location cards, Mythos, Gate cards and Spells, plus more Common and Unique Items, The Lurker at the Threshold will enhance and expand the enjoyment of Arkham Horror for players of all skill levels.

It offers a dynamic play experience where players have to react and adjust their strategy accordingly.

Gameplay is similar to other deckbuilding games, with the player adding cards to their deck by purchasing them from a central deck, which has the top six cards revealed and available for purchase. When cards are removed, they are replaced with a new one from the top of the deck. Victory points are earned in three ways: firstly, each card purchased is worth one or more victory points; second, victory points can be gained by defeating monsters with a power resource featured on several of the cards; finally, some cards give victory points directly each time they are played.

China, 2000 years ago: Loyang (Luòyáng) has risen to become the Capital of the Han Dynasty and one of the four great Capitals of old China. The economic upturn of the now-flourishing city requires a better supply of basic foodstuffs.

You are local farmers, who plant wheat, pumpkins, turnips, cabbages, beans and leeks in their fields. After each harvest, the farmers assemble at the gates of Loyang to sell and trade their vegetables. They deliver to their regular customers or lucratively sell their vegetables to passing shoppers. Vegetables can also be traded at Market stalls or used for seed and planted in fields. If the farmers need vegetables that they don’t have in stock, they can buy them in the Shop. Twenty different helpers, each with different individual skills, are available to assist them. The most successful farmer will be the one who moves furthest along the Path of Prosperity within the given timeframe. Each step costs more and more money, which is also needed for investments. Farmers have to find the right balance.

The coins have square holes, so that they can be held on strings. They have the Chinese name “Cash”, which is the derivative of the modern term.

Attack!

Type: War/Area Control
Number of players: 2-6
Age of players: 10+
Length: 3 hours

Additional DescriptionMore Details

The basic game (Attack!) is a very simple game of expansion and conflict set in the World War 2 era. It is aimed at those game players who enjoy rules that are very simple and easy to get into. The game is not intended to be a simulation of the era, but immerses the players in the flavor of the period.
Gameplay:
Each player starts with a few regions (one of which is his capital), and a few military units. Players expand their power bases by adding regions to their "sphere of influence". This may be done either through diplomacy (they join willingly), or military conquest (they join, period).
There are three major sub-games in Attack!:
1) Land Combat: A simple system where each unit has certain advantages based on its historical role.
2) Sea Combat: A simple system where each ship type (Battleship, Carrier, Destroyer, and Sub) has certain advantages based on its historical role.
3) Economic: A simple system determines production. The player starts with one card per region owned, and then gets a new one for each new region added. The cards come in four basic flavors (suites): Resources, Factories, Transport Network, and Oil. Each card has a value printed on it that represents the base economic value of that region. If the player is able to create an entire "set" (one of each suite), he doubles the printed value on those cards. There is also a fifth type of card which has a minimum value of "1" that represents a region without any special economic value (just "population").
The units will include: Infantry, Tank, Artillery, and Air. These will be high quality plastic minis.
The map will be earth circa 1935 centered around the Atlantic (North and South America, Europe, and Africa).

Attack! Deluxe Expansion

This is an expansion for the game Attack! and requires the base game to play.

Additional DescriptionMore Details

DESIGNER’S INTRODUCTION

In 2003, Eagle Games introduced a new way to fight. The 1st edition of Attack! stripped global war down to its basics, appealing to fans of complex wargames and abstract strategy games alike. In theory, this game took place just before World War II began, but in reality, it didn’t just take place everywhere, it could take place everywhen. In this way it hearkened back to classic games like Risk and Supremacy, reminding the players that the reason to battle was not to recreate an era of history, but rather to battle for battle’s sake.

When it first came out, the game proclaimed that it would deliver on its great name. That first edition of Attack! didn’t reward caution. You and I girded up for war and started wailing on each other. Simple, straightforward, and fun.

I became aware of Attack! as I was developing another world-spanning battle game, the first revision of Axis & Allies in 18 years. That game was locked in place historically. It was early 1942: the December 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor had lit a fire under America, and Germany was at the height of its expansion. Axis & Allies staked its foot in the ground and said, this war, this time. And yet…

And yet it wasn’t quite, because for a wargame set in 1942 to have any chance of being balanced, Axis & Allies needed to compromise. The Germans needed to get more resources than they had in reality, because despite millions of people working to decide the outcome, by 1942 the Allies had made most of the gains they needed to win the war. It’s hard to imagine what the Axis could have done to win, assuming anything but inactivity from America and its European partners. So Axis & Allies put the Axis first, and a whole bunch of compromises with reality followed from there, all in the name of great gameplay.

Attack! doesn’t even try to be historical, and so it starts from a point of balance. You’re a nation, and you want to beat the other nations into oblivion. I’m not America, you’re not Germany, and we’re evenly matched. The only thing that makes you more capable of beating me is if you’re smarter or luckier or more adaptable than I am.

When Sean and I started to redevelop the game for its 2nd Edition, we looked at both the base game and its expansion, and thought about what we wanted to keep. The combat system was excellent, for example, and the huge map (once you added the expansion to the base set) was awe-inspiring. But some things weren’t awe-inspiring, and we pruned those away. This gave us the freedom to introduce new rules—new technology, new naval battles, and lots more—that made the game more flexible and more fun, and allowed us the supreme luxury of combining the base set and the expansion into one. This is all you’ll ever need to conquer the entire world.

But maybe, after all that buildup, you still don’t think this game’s for you. Maybe you’d like something more methodical, realistic, or slow. If so, I’m sure someone will create a game called Defend! just for you. But if you like battle for battle’s sake, as I do, you only need to know one word: Attack! —Mike Selinker, February 2009

Balloon Cup

Type: Card Games
Number of players: 2
Age of players: 10+
Length: 30 minutes

An open copy of this game is available for demonstration.

Additional DescriptionMore Details

In Balloon Cup, the players compete in several short balloon flights (hops) to collect the colored cubes associated with each hop. When a player has collected enough cubes of a given color, he earns the trophy card for that color. Players may even trade 3 otherwise useless cubes for 1 they can use. The first player to earn 3 trophy cards is the winner! Each player has a hand of eight balloon cards. The players play their balloons on mountain or plain hops. Players play their high-valued balloons on the mountains and their low-valued balloons on the plains. Players usually play their balloons on their side of the hops, but winds (and cunning) can cause them to play on their opponent’s side, a move that can ruin their opponent’s plans.

With a bright Peep from the whistle, a full Chuff from the pistons and a powerful Clank from the drivers, America's first steam locomotive moves down the steel rails of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad in Baltimore in 1830. Number of players: 1-16
Age of players: 7+
Length: 15 minutes

A Scrabble-like game without the board -- much like Pick Two!, but without the letter values.
This version has double the number of tiles - 288 instead of 144 - allowing for double the number of players as the regular version.

There are also variants included in the rules, and the game is suitable for solo play.

Bang!

Type: Bluffing/Card Game
Number of players: 4-7
Age of players: 8+
Length: 30 minutes

Additional DescriptionMore Details

"The Outlaws hunt the Sheriff. The Sheriff hunts the Outlaws. The Renegade plots secretly, ready to take one side or the other. Bullets fly. Who among the gunmen is a Deputy, ready to sacrifice himself for the Sheriff? And who is a merciless Outlaw, willing to kill him? If you want to find out, just draw (your cards)!" (From back of box)
This card game recreates an old-fashioned spaghetti western shoot-out, with each player randomly receiving a Character card to determine special abilities, and a secret Role card to determine their goal.
Four different Roles are available, each with a unique victory condition:
Sheriff - Kill all Outlaws and the Renegade
Deputy - Protect the Sheriff and kill any Outlaws
Outlaw - Kill the Sheriff
Renegade - Be the last person standing
A player's Role is kept secret, except for the Sheriff. Character cards are placed face-up on table, and also track strength (hand limit) in addition to special ability.
There are 22 different types of cards in the draw deck. Most common are the BANG! cards, which let you shoot at another player, assuming the target is within "range" of your current gun. The target player can play a "MISSED!" card to dodge the shot. Other cards can provide temporary boosts while in play (for example, different guns to improve your firing range) and special one-time effects to help you or hinder your opponents (such as Beer to restore health, or Barrels to hide behind during a shootout). A horse is useful for keeping your distance from unruly neighbors, while the Winchester can hit a target at range 5. The Gatling is a deadly exception where range doesn't matter - it can only be used once, but targets all other players at the table!
Information on the cards is displayed using language-independent symbols, and 7 summary/reference cards are included.

Wild West Show! is "a little double-faced expansion that contains eight VERY wild new characters, like one that draws cards from the other players hands instead of the deck, one with 9 life points who cannot use Missed! cards, [and] one that "draws" when it’s killed and stays alive if you do not draw Spades, ’cause you need a Spade to bury him!, [plus] a set of cards that come in play when you play a Wells Fargo and change the rules of the game until they are discarded... [and] craaaaazy cards, like the Wild West Show that lets you play Missed! cards as BANG!s and vice versa, [and] one that lets you swap your position with another player at the table..."

Battle Line

Type: Set Collecting/Card Game
Number of players: 2
Age of players: 12+
Length: 30 minutes

An open copy of this game is available for demonstration.

Additional DescriptionMore Details

Two opponents face off across a 'battle line' and attempt to win the battle by taking 5 of 9 flags or 3 adjacent flags. Flags are decided by placing cards into 3 card poker-type hands on either side of the flag (similar to straight flush, 3 of a kind, straight, flush, etc). The side with the highest 'formation' of cards wins the flag.
This is a rethemed version of Schotten-Totten with different graphics and wooden flag bits in place of the boundary stone cards. Game play is identical, except the cards run from 1 to 10 (not 9), you hold seven cards in your hand (not 6), and the rule that stones may only be claimed at the start of your turn is presented as an "advanced variant".

Battleship Galaxies: The Saturn Offensive

Type: Miniatures War Game
Number of players: 2 – 4
Age of players: 13 and up
Length: Variable, scenario driven

Additional DescriptionMore Details

Battleship Galaxies is a space combat miniatures board game that is a distant cousin to the original Battleship game. The two opposing forces represented in the game, the human Intergalactic Space Navy and the alien Wretcheridians, are represented by 20 highly-detailed starship miniatures. There are figures for several different ship types and each has an individual reference card that defines the characteristics of that ship (e.g. weapons, movement, shields). The game is played on a star field hex board.

The game is scenario driven and each scenario will define the goal of the game as well as initial board set-up. Each turn, players have a certain number of energy points that can be spent to perform actions, such as movement or fire. Combat is resolved by rolling special dice, a ten-sided die with letters and an eight-sided die with numbers. The resulting letter-number combination is compared to the target ship’s reference card to determine the result. Hits on a ship are indicated by placing colored pegs in the figure’s base.

Battlestar Galactica: Exodus

This is an expansion for the game Battlestar Galactica and requires the base game to play.

Additional DescriptionMore Details

“We make our own laws, now. Our own justice…we’re not a civilization anymore. We are a gang.”
–Lee Adama

Fantasy Flight Games is pleased to announce Exodus, the latest expansion for Battlestar Galactica: The Board Game! With three new options to add to your game, Exodus is a great way to expand on the accusations and mistrust that runs rampant in Battlestar Galactica.

You can choose to add any combination of the three new options included in Exodus. Crave more white-knuckle space dog-fighting? Incorporate the Cylon Fleet option. The Conflicted Loyalties option introduces new Loyalty Cards that will test even the most trustworthy allegiances. Finally, relive the emotional turmoil of the hit television series with the Ionian Nebula, which pits players against the various conflicting personalities aboard Galactica.

The Cylon Fleet option keeps the pressure intense by introducing the Cylon Fleet game board. This board makes sure that every Crisis Card drawn will result in some sort of enemy ship activity. Once the Cylon Pursuit Track reaches the end, the Cylon ships will transfer over to the main game board, surrounding Galactica. There’s little time for rest between assaults, so get out there and protect those civvies, fighter jockeys!

Alliances are put to the test in the Conflicted Loyalties option, where the new Final Five Loyalty Cards up the stakes and introduce penalties for revealing your fellow humans’ Loyalty Card. In addition, new Personal Goal Loyalty Cards present players with an incriminating task to undertake. If they don’t fulfill their goal, then they will cause Galactica to lose a resource at the end of the game. Will you raise suspicion by completing the damaging task, or will you lay low and hope your failures won’t condemn the rest of your crew?

Finally, with the Ionian Nebula option, familiar faces populate the fleet as allies, and can be encountered by visiting locations on Galactica. But beware! The Cylons can influence these non-player characters, compelling them to produce negative effects when encountered. Manage humanity’s conflicting personalities carefully... or infighting will leave you vulnerable!

Bios Megafauna

Type: Auction/Civilization Game
Ages: 12 and up
Number of Players: 1 – 4
Playing Time: 180 minutes

Additional DescriptionMore Details

Start as a proto-dinosaur or proto-mammal, just after the Permian apocalypse that destroyed 96% of the planet. Faced with environmental changes and competition from others, you must mutate your species and start new species. Create bizarre chimeras, from vegetarian velociraptors to flying dolphins. Establish subterranean civilizations, tame fire, or just be super-sexy.

Bios-Megafauna

Comes with:

  • mounted map,
  • 108 Cards,
  • 126 die-cut counters,
  • 128 laser-cut wooden animals,
  • 18 gene chips

Overview. From 1 to 4 players start as proto-dinosaurs or proto-mammals. These creatures are distinguished by dentition; some have long batteries of teeth better suited for masticating plants, while others have fewer teeth better suited for meat-eating. Each player starts with genes used to purchase mutation and genotype cards. Stacks of cards and tiles indicate the dietary DNA of your species, giving it adaptations such as long necks for browsing.  Markers on tracks record roadrunner DNA, attributes that help your species catch prey or avoid being prey, such as swiftness or aggressiveness. You can create interesting critters, like blubbery vegetarian velociraptors, or flying fire-using hedgehogs. Tiles that have gone extinct are collected in an area on the map called the “tarpits”. These tiles are distributed among the most populous players as victory points during four scoring rounds.

Bottle Imp

Type: Card Game
Number of players: 3-4
Ages: 10+
Playing time: 30 minutes

An open copy of this game is available for demonstration.

Additional DescriptionMore Details

“Of glass it is but the glass of it was tempered in the flames of hell. An imp lives in it, and that is the shadow we behold there moving: or so I suppose. If any man buy this bottle the imp is at his command; all that he desires - love, fame, money, houses like this house ... - all are his at the word uttered ... There is one thing the imp cannot do - he cannot prolong life; and, it would not be fair to conceal from you, there is a drawback to the bottle; for if a man die before he sells it, he must burn in hell forever ... it cannot be sold at all, unless sold at a loss. If you sell it for as much as you paid for it, back it comes to you again like a homing pigeon ... Only remember it must be coined money that you sell it for ...”

As with many other trick-taking card games, the idea of The Bottle Imp is to acquire the most points. The Bottle Imp makes trumps out of the lowest cards. The player with the highest card less than the price of the Bottle earns the trick and also the bottle imp card. Then the price of the Bottle falls to that of the winning card. In this way the owner of the Bottle Imp changes until its
value can no longer be undercut. Whoever has the Bottle Imp at the end of the hand earns negative points instead of positive ones.

Bridge Troll

Type: Card game
Number of players: 3-6
Age of players: 10+
Length: 45-60 minutes

Additional DescriptionMore Details

In BRIDGE TROLL, you and your friends are hideous trolls who each guard a troll bridge. Each turn, you throw boulders to bid for travelers, who vary in number depending on the weather for that day.
ravelers include fat merchants, pilgrims, poor monks (who make good eating), and if you are lucky, royal personages. As travelers come to your bridge, you use them to collect tolls. But watch out! Knights, bandits, dragons, and vicious Billy Goats Gruff prowl the countryside. You'll have to use some of your boulders to chase them away (which means you’ll have fewer left to use on your bridge!).
Although you need to collect tolls from travelers so you can buy building supplies, working on your bridge makes you hungry, so you will have to eat some of your travelers instead. It is important to
alance tolls with food in order to make your bridge very appealing to travelers. If you eat too many travelers or just collect money, you won't be able to fix up your bridge. The player who uses toll-money, food, and boulders to build the most impressive troll bridge operation wins the game.
