Deck Building Games

A Few Acres of Snow

Type: Card/War Game
Ages: 12 and up
Number of Players: 2
Playing Time: 60 minutes

There is an open copy of this game available for play at Board Game Warriors.

Additional DescriptionMore Details

A Few Acres of Snow covers the long struggle between Britain and France for control of what eventually became Canada. The version on offer is the standard edition, the limited edition is now unavailable.

The game involves a deck-building mechanism which may be familiar to those people who have played another certain award winning card game. Each player starts with a small set of cards. Cards come in two general types, location cards and empire cards. You can add an empire card to your discard pile simply by taking one as an action. Adding a location card is a little more involved. Each location card has a list of locations that it connects to and the transport type required to move to each of those locations. To take control of a neutral location you would have to play a location card with that neutral location on it, then a card that has the correct transport symbol, and then possibly a card with a settler symbol on it if required. You then place a cube in the location and add the location card to your discard pile.

Players take it in turns to perform two actions. There are a range of actions available, such as settling new locations, besieging locations, trading fur, launching Indian raids, and building fortifications. There are also cards that allow you to perform actions to manage your deck, such as getting rid of useless cards and drawing additional cards from your pile. You can also place cards in reserve so that you can use them at a later point in time.

The game ends if a player manages to capture his opponent’s capital city or he has managed to place all of his village or town pieces on the board. In the latter case points are calculated to see who wins.

Number of Players: 2 – 4
Playing Time: 30 minutes
Integrates with:

Additional DescriptionMore Details

Ascension is a fast paced deckbuilding game designed by Magic™ Pro Tour champions Justin Gary, Rob Dougherty, and Brian Kibler, with artwork by Eric Sabee. Ascension is a deck-building game where players spend Runes to acquire more powerful cards for their deck. It offers a dynamic play experience where players have to react and adjust their strategy accordingly.

Gameplay is similar to other deckbuilding games, with the player adding cards to their deck by purchasing them from a central deck, which has the top six cards revealed and available for purchase. When cards are removed, they are replaced with a new one from the top of the deck. Victory points are earned in three ways: firstly, each card purchased is worth one or more victory points; second, victory points can be gained by defeating monsters with a power resource featured on several of the cards; finally, some cards give victory points directly each time they are played.

Core Worlds

Type: Deck Building Game
Ages: 10 and up
Number of Players: 2 – 5
Playing Time: 60 minutes

Additional DescriptionMore Details

The ancient Galactic Realm, ruled from the Core Worlds of the galaxy, is waning. Now, the barbaric kingdoms that lie beyond the galactic frontier are amassing their strength, choosing this pivotal moment to strike at the heart of the fading republic, establishing new empires built upon the ashes of decaying civilizations. But these outer systems are not yet strong enough to engage the forces of theCore Worlds directly. The young kingdoms must first gnaw at the edges of the crumbling frontier, developing new types of units and shrewder tactics. They must build up their energy resources to launch magnificent fleets and overwhelming ground forces. Then, when the time is right, they must strike at the galactic core itself, claiming the most exalted planets for themselves. The barbarian kingdom that achieves these goals will carve out the greatest empire in the galaxy… and rule the Core Worlds!

Each player controls a barbarian Star Empire represented by many cards. Throughout the game, players will invade Worlds and draft new Units and Tactics into their Empires. Each card lists its Empire Points in the upper right corner. The player whose Empire contains the most Empire Points at the end of the game is the winner!

Core Worlds is a deck-building card game for 2 - 5 players. The following are the central concepts of Core Worlds:

Central Zone: Throughout the game, new cards are drawn from the five Galactic Decks and placed face up in the Central Zone, the game's common play area. These cards include new Units and Tactics that the players can draft into their Empires, as well as Worlds that they can invade.

Empire: Each player represents an Empire that begins with a Home World and a Starting Deck. A player's Empire consists of all of the cards in his hand, draw deck, discard pile, and Warzone (tableau).

Fleet Strength: Each World possesses a Fleet Strength that represents the starships that defend it from attack. A World's Fleet Strength must be matched in order for that World to be successfully invaded. Many Units possess a Fleet Strength that a player can use to invade a World.

Ground Strength: Each World possesses a Ground Strength that represents the infantry and other ground forces that defend it from surface assault. A World's Ground Strength must be matched in order for it to be successfully Invaded. Many Units possess a Ground Strength that a player can use to invade a World.

Invasion: In order to add new Worlds to his Empire, a player must launch Invasions. A player performs an Invasion by discarding enough cards from his Warzone to match the Fleet Strength and Ground Strength of the World he is invading.

Warzone: Each player's Empire includes a Warzone, an area in front of the player where her conquered Worlds are displayed. Players also deploy Units from their hands face up into their Warzones, and later use these Units to invade new Worlds.

Eaten by Zombies!

Type: Card/Deck Building Game
Number of Players: 2 – 4
Playing Time: 20 minutes
Ages : 8 and up

There is an open copy of this game available for play at Board Game Warriors.

Additional DescriptionMore Details

Deck building to die for!

In the new card game Eaten By Zombies! players strive to survive as the horde of the living dead make it their goal in Death to force you to join the crowd. You must work with or against the other survivors to be the last one standing. No not standing, cowering in the corner crying for their mommy.

In the spirit of AMC's "The Walking Dead" and "I Am Legend", Eaten By Zombies takes you into a dark world of eventual death. Every turn you must venture out from your safehouse and scavenge for Swag. But not so fast, the Undead have other plans for your brains. Every day a Horde of fresh zombies will be waiting for you, and over time the threat gets greater. Now it's time for your "Fight or Flight" instincts to help you to survive just one more day. Using the swag you've got on you (ie cards in you hand) you must survive any way you can.

If you can get away or kill the Horde, you may scavenge the remains of the desolate suburbs for any Swag the neighbors may have left behind. With the right stuff and a few good friends to out run, you may just make it through this alive... well, no probably not. But being the last one to die a slow, painful death means you can claim sole victory!

With a set of over twenty different cards to start with, no two games will ever be alike. This game is a combination of Card Drafting, Hand Management and Survival Horror with a few dirty tricks thrown in.

Euro Game Card Sleeves (59 MM X 92 MM) 100/pack!

These are for cards that are 2 5/16 X 3 9/16 inches in size (59 MM X 92 MM). Don’t worry, with our standard thickness sleeves it is very easy to fit the cards back in the box, you only need to move a few copper behind the Trash card holder or other open slot.  These are DESIGNED to not take up too much thickness in the box and to allow for easy storage with the existing box/holder!

Additional DescriptionMore Details

Please note that these sleeves are for cards of about 59 MM X 92 MM in size. That means the sleeves themselves are 60 MM X 93 MM to allow for the thickness of the sleeves themselves and to get the cards in and out of the sleeves. If they were exactly 92 MM long then the tops of the cards would rub when handled and wear the cards out, defeating the entire purpose of the sleeves. They are designed so that you can continue to use the card holders for game such as Dominion. Please note this is compatible with many board games. Dominion is very popular right now and has just under 500 cards. If you are looking to sleeve the entire Dominion Game then you will need 5 packs of these to do so. The cards will still fit in the box just fine, though you may have to move a few cooper and maybe a few silver to another slot (like behind the Trash Card) to fit them in without using the middle section.

What is this item? It is a set of simple card sleeves that are basically plastic sleeves to protect your cards from wear and tear! If you play very many European Board Games you probably spend HUNDREDS and HUNDREDS of dollars on your games. What happens to the best ones? They eventually wear out from hours and hours of fun! Don't let your cards get beat up, spilled on, marked up or destroyed by thoughtless friends or family, invest a few bucks in these and protect your investment! Whats that? You already have sleeves? Yeah, well you may have some sleeves but chances are they don't fit very well. Why? Standard sized card sleeves are NOT sized for "Euro Cards"! Take a look at this list of games who's cards will fit into these sleeves: Agricola Aladdin's Dragons Alhambra Atlantic Star Babel Balloon Cup Battlelore Board Game Battlelore: Call To Arms Battlelore: Heroes Battlelore: Scottish Wars Beowulf: The Legend Blue Moon City Castle for All Seasons Civilization (1982 Ver) Cuba Cuba: El Presidente Exp. London

Type: Economic
Ages: 10 and up
Number of Players: 2 – 4
Playing Time: 90 minutes

An open copy of this game is available for play at Board Game Warriors.

Additional DescriptionMore Details

London lies devastated after the Great Fire of 1666. This is your opportunity to build a new city on the ashes of the old. It is up to you how you employ the talents of the people of London to this end. Will you favour the business classes, who will earn you money? Or would you prefer to spend more money than you can rightly afford on grand monuments and sumptuous palaces? You must also deal with the problem of rising poverty and how to employ the many paupers of the city. Throughout the game you will be forced to make tough decisions. To achieve one aim you must sacrifice another, which may open an opportunity for a competitor.

Almost 250 years of the city’s history is recreated in this game. Many of the most famous buildings and monuments are captured in detail on illustrated cards. These elements are presented in a relatively simple game that can be played easily within ninety minutes.

As with a lot of games, London is about scoring the most VPs. Players manage their hand, selecting cards to play into their building display by laying them out in a line. At some point a player will choose to run his city. They can activate their buildings in whatever order they prefer. The resulting actions can generate money and VPs, reduce poverty or have some other effect specified on the card. Some cards have an entry cost which must be paid before the action can be performed.

Ignite the Dawn

The archangel Avacyn has returned! A bright, fiery dawn banishes Innistrad’s shadows. Humanity takes up arms and drives back the creatures of the night. With flights of angels overhead, the righteous band together and wield holy light and miraculous magic to restore the balance of their world.

Bound by Strength

If you like teamwork (and overwhelming your opponent), you'll love the "Bound by Strength" deck. The soulbond ability lets pairs of creatures share their powers—but soulbond creatures get the benefit of their abilities only if they're paired with another creature, so it's important to put plenty of them out!

Fiery Dawn

The "Fiery Dawn" deck focuses on the power of Humans working together. Since this is an aggressive deck, your primary focus will be to cast creatures and start attacking with them as early as possible.

Slaughterhouse

The key to playing the "Slaughterhouse" deck is to kill creatures early and often. The twisted part is that you'll want to kill not only your opponent's creatures but your own, too! Many of the creatures in this deck don't stay dead, so offing them isn't really a disadvantage. The first time they die, creatures with the undying ability return to the battlefield even bigger than before!

Solitary Fiends

With the "Solitary Fiends" deck, your nefarious scheme is to have exactly one creature on the battlefield. Your most powerful threats thrive if you meet this condition. For example, Demonic Rising supplies you with a 5/5 flying Demon, and Lone Revenant provides you with extra cards. Other creatures such as Fettergeist and Havengul Skaab are at their best when by themselves, and provide an easy way to ditch your other creatures.

Angelic Might

The "Angelic Might" deck features, as you'd expect, gigantic flying creatures with awesome abilities. You just need to make sure the game lasts long enough for them to come out! Hold off your opponent's creatures with Angelic Wall andGideon's Lawkeeper, neuter those creatures with Defang, and take them off the battlefield entirely with Righteous Blow and Oblivion Ring. Don't be afraid to trade your creatures in combat for your opponent's attackers—anything that slows down your enemies is good for you.

Magic the Gathering - Innistrad Event Deck: Deathfed

The Right Deck, Right Now
Event Decks let you enter the world of tournament play knowing you’ve got a powerful deck designed to let you be immediately competitive. Each Event Deck contains 60 powerful cards and a supplemental 15-card sideboard. Rest assured that each one of these weapons was handpicked to inflict pain upon any opponent who takes you on.

Additional DescriptionMore Details

Winning with the "Deathfed" deck requires some patience. Your deck is designed with the late game in mind, and if you rush your strategy, your opponent may just overrun you. Don't worry if you appear to fall behind early. Your biggest strength is a well-stocked graveyard, and all of your cards will give you an incremental advantage while fueling your graveyard. Once your engine is up and running, it's very difficult for any opponent to stop.

The easiest way for you to fill up your graveyard is to use spells like Mulch and Forbidden Alchemy. You'll get more resources while also getting more creature cards into your graveyard for future use—a win-win situation. You can also plunk down Armored Skaab in front of opposing creatures and get an even fuller graveyard for your trouble. Use Viridian Emissary to block and take down an attacking creature and get another land, and keep a steady stream of spells and lands coming with Merfolk Looter. You can use Green Sun's Zenith to find whichever creature you need at the moment.

You'll be well rewarded for all those creature cards in your graveyard. Boneyard Wurmkeeps growing as you keep filling your graveyard. Splinterfright has the same ability, plus even fills your graveyard for you. You can create huge armies of spiders with Spider Spawning (and then flashback the Spawning later). Bonehoard is particularly strong in this deck. Even if your opponent can kill the Germ, you'll have plenty of extra creatures around to pick up the Equipment. Eventually your creatures will tower over your opponent's and you can win at your leisure.

Your main deck is tuned to face a wide variety of other decks, but your sideboard allows you to attack specific strategies. With Naturalize, you can blow up annoying artifacts and enchantments. Use Negate to counter powerful spells from opposing control decks, or Flashfreeze to counter pesky red or green spells. You can fight directdamage spells by gaining life by the boatload with Gnaw to the Bone. And of course, you can always steal opposing creatures with Mind Control.

Tweaking the deck to your own satisfaction could take it in a variety of directions. Mirror-Mad Phantasm adds a more aggressive element while still fueling your graveyard. Skaab Ruinator provides an alternative use for the creatures in your graveyard and takes the fight straight to the enemy. Or you could use Jace, Memory Adept and Jace's Apprentice to dump even more creatures in your graveyard—or turn the tables on your opponent and win by depleting their decks!

Two Planeswalkers, one compassionate, one calculating, gave their all to save a world.

The Planeswalker Koth, from the metal plane of Mirrodin, sought help when his world darkened. He traveled to Dominaria to enlist allies and met fellow Planeswalker Venser.

When Venser recognized the threat to Koth’s world was none other than Phyrexia, he knew that the only hope for Mirrodin was to find its maker. But that would mean forsaking its people in the meantime.

Koth would rather die than turn his back on his fellow Mirrans. But Venser knew they would all die anyway if they failed to reach Karn, his former mentor and creator of Mirrodin.

Two Planeswalkers, one goal, very different methods. Recreate the struggle to lead the way to Mirrodin’s salvation.

Nightfall

Type: Deckbuilding Card Game

Age of players: 12 and up
Length: 45 minutes

Expanded by:

Additional DescriptionMore Details

The sun has retreated from the earth. It has been a little over a week since the last hint of light shone over the horizon, and the chaos has begun. People fear for their existence, while scientists struggle to explain the phenomenon.

Until they came.

The creatures of nightmare — vampires, werewolves, and ghouls — have begun to appear throughout the world, and they show no sign of hesitation in claiming the dark world as their own!Nightfall - a new fast, furious and fun deck-building game from Alderac Entertainment Group. Featuring direct head-to-head combat, amazing art, a new AEG world, and unique mechanics by designer David Gregg, Nightfall will be the deck-building game to own.

Before the game begins, there is a draft to determine which cards are available for purchase, and by whom. During this draft players select two cards from the set for their personal archives, and they also select cards to put into the common area. The cards drafted into personal archives may only be purchased by the player who drafted them.

After the table has been set with the private and common cards, players begin play.

The meat of Nightfall is in the chaining mechanic, which was partially developed with the help of people right here on BoardGameGeek.

Each card has a main color and two linking colors. If you can match the main color of a card to one of the linking colors of the previous card, you can chain those cards together. Once a chain is started, players all get an opportunity to link additional cards onto the chain during that turn.

Cards in the chain resolve in reverse order: first in, last out. Instant effects fire off as cards come off the chain, doing damage to your opponents or bringing characters into play to defend you and attack your opponents.

The object of Nightfall is to put wounds into your opponents’ decks and end the game with the least amount of wounds in your deck. But beware: the more wounds a person has, the more enraged they become and the faster their deck works, meaning more cards and bigger chains will come your way!

Nightfall's base set releases with starting decks of 12 cards for up to 5 players, and 24 distinct cards (7 copies of each) for drafting during play.

The box contains card dividers, and is in the same format as the much heralded Wrath of the Elements box for Thunderstone.

Rune Age

Type: Deck Building Game
Number of players: 1 – 4
Age of players: 13 and up
Length: 60 minutes

Additional DescriptionMore Details

An age of innovation and discovery is at hand. With war on the horizon and whisperings of a prophetic storm approaching, now is the time to gather all your strength and set out to forge your place in Terrinoth's book of legends!

Rune Age is a deck-building game of adventure and conquest for 2-4 players. Set in the fantasy realm of Terrinoth (Runebound, Descent: Journeys in the Dark, Runewars, and DungeonQuest), Rune Age puts players in control of one of four races, vying for dominance in a world embroiled in conflict.

Designed by Corey Konieczka, Rune Age is a unique deck-building game that centers around scenarios. The four different scenarios included in Rune Age present alternate win conditions for players, from an all-out war to determine the victor to a cooperative game experience where players all win or lose together. Scenarios not only dictate the win conditions, they also determine which card types will populate Terrinoth (forming the central card pools) and which Event cards will form the Event deck. The Event deck contains thematic challenges, enemies, and happenings that are tied to the chosen scenario, creating a new play environment each turn.

Gameplay in Rune Age centers around players working to develop their individual deck of cards. At the beginning of the game, each player begins with a small assortment of cards in their deck, drawing five cards each turn to carry out their actions. Each player's deck represents their faction's military strength and capabilities. These decks will be formed with their faction-specific Unit cards and a central collection of Neutral Unit cards, Tactics cards, and Gold cards.

While players begin with limited cards in their deck, through cunning and strategic use of their available cards, players can expand their deck to create a destructive force of their own clever design. Will you create brutal deck of formidable Units? Or will you rely on Gold and Influence to acquire neutral forces and powerful Tactics?
